Business of the Year – Bobbie Norton, Jockey Person to Person
A smart business woman, Bobbie Norton really works her business with exceptional customer service and is very goal oriented. In 2012 all her hard work paid off when she earned her incentive trip to Aruba with top sales for the company. She just recently returned from this trip. Bobbie is a ‘people-person’ so it’s not far-fetched for her to sell clothes that sell themselves but she is the true comfort specialist inside and out. She volunteers her time between her sorority sisters, The Women’s Business Network to name a few. A couple of months ago Bobbie broke a bone in her foot but that didn’t stop her from keeping the business going, her clients just came to her instead of her going to them. One member commented “Bobbie is a good example of the show must go on.”
New Business of the Year – Heather Cooper, 3rd Life Creations
Heather Cooper’s business 3rd Life Creations is a new business that was started up in 2012 and makes medical information kits. In an audition for Dragon’s Den she got some good advice for what she needed to do to get the business off the ground and became an entrepreneur. A former nurse, Heather is now doing something that helps people and she sees a real sense of purpose in this. The kits are in a store and online with people are using them in New Brunswick, Ontario and BC.
Members Choice Award - Ginny Alliston, Ginny’s Graphics & Web Design
Ginny Alliston of Ginny’s Graphics & Web Design has gone the extra mile by devoting countless hours learning WordPress so she could revamp the association’s website, created a user manual for it, and she still has ideas for improvement. She also redesigned the logo and worked on many committees within the association. One member commented “Ginny is the perfect example of someone who just digs in and gets it done.”
Inspiration Award - Donna Clairmont, Clairmont Custom Draperies & Décor
Donna Clairmont of Clairmont Custom Draperies & Décor has a winning smile and sunny personality. If you came to the meeting in a bad mood I don’t think you left that way. When she is at other networking functions she always introduces herself as the President of the HB&SBA. She inspires members to get involved within the association through her leadership skills as president, even though she is extremely busy with her growing company. One member commented, “She is always super friendly so you know her customer service skills are excellent.”
Merit Award - Russel Ball, AudioXcellence DJ Services
Russell Ball of Audio Xcellence DJ Services is recognized for his volunteer presence within the Valley and his outgoing and friendly personality. Lawrence Belfrage Memorial Award - Larrie & Margaret Szafron, Prestige Video Transfer
Larrie and Margaret Szafron of Prestige Video Transfer are two of the most ‘seen-around-town’ network extraordinaires in the Comox Valley. If there is an event, they will be there. If you don’t see them it’s usually because they are out of town on holidays. They both represent this association in all their business and social dealings and go all out to help in whatever way they can. Larrie and Margaret get involved with other associations in the Comox Valley, quite often you can hear Margaret say “…and anywhere else they need me.’”
Innovation Award - Angela Zumbo, The Mortgage Centre
Angela Zumbo purchased the franchise, The Mortgage Centre Comox Valley, in March of 2012. At the time there were two licensed agents, the old owner and herself. In one short year they have grown to have six licensed agents and an office manager. Angela proved innovative when she added an insurance agent/financial advisor on site.
