HBBA Mentoring Program Guide

Have a question regarding your home based business? Read over the following guide and see if you can be either a mentor in an area or a recipient. We are here to help.

This program is intended to provide an opportunity for members to get input on specific areas in business from fellow members.

  • The program will be provided free of charge.
  • None of the mentors should be promoting his or her self as an "expert" in business.
  • All decisions made as a result of mentor advice or input, are made at the business owner's own discretion and responsibility.
  • Upon making contact, the mentor and prospective mentored person will decide when to have an initial meeting. This initial meeting should be a maximum of 20 to 30 minutes in duration. This meeting will be to determine
    • If there is a good “fit” between people
    • If this would be an appropriate mentorship (does the mentor have what the mentored person needs, does the mentored person have reasonable expectations of the mentor?)
    • What type of a timetable would be convenient for both

If, for any reason, either one of the people are not comfortable with the arrangement or do not wish to continue, there is no obligation on the part of either party to have any further meetings.

Mentoring Schedule

Since it is expected that once a mentoring arrangement has been made, both parties will meet their commitments to the relationship, participants need to determine

  • How often they will meet
  • The length and time of each meeting
  • An estimate of the duration of the mentoring relationship (for example, the mentor may be willing to give 1 hour of his/her time for 5 weeks)
  • If the mentoring relationship can be renegotiated at the end of the agreed upon time limit
  • If the mentored person can contact his/her mentor between meetings and, if so, how often, on what days, and at what time of the day
  • Within what period of time should the mentored person expect a response to any messages that s/he leaves for the mentor? The mentor should be able to commit to responding within a set amount of time.

It is also understood that any information that either party acquires about the other’s business or personal life will remain confidential.

To join the mentor program as offered by the CVHBBA, either as a mentor or as a receiver, please contact the Vice President.
